Grow Gardens for Autism - Vision Statement

A strong strategy to respond to the growing epidemic of autism is community organized organic food growing. Though it is impossible to prove conclusively via a control model analysis which isolates a single variable at a time, there are many significant case studies (historically and within many fields of disease research) that support the theory that diet plays an integral role in the body’s ability to combat disease. The relationship between diet and disease is highlighted specifically by the challenges of autism, and the many complications which this disease instigates between the digestive and neurological systems. Authorities in our country are not supporting the implementation of diet as a remedy in practical ways because that strategy does not profit their entity. Allopathic medicine is ill-equipped to manage diseases, such as autism, that challenge the body in a variety of ways. Diet is a solution that hosts a multitude of positive variables. The sciences of biology and chemistry support the proposition that “we are what we eat” and that a healthy diet equals a healthy individual. We propose a unified effort to strengthen our children’s bodies fundamentally through diet, by making nutritious, fresh and safe food more readily available and more convenient to grow. Parents who believe that diet and supplementation are positively influencing children with autism are increasing in number despite the organized official responses mandated by societies, academies and companies promoting their stance that diet will make little or no substantial difference in the treatment of this disease. Parents prioritize their children above profit. We should focus our effort to heal our children by cultivating the power to make them stronger with our own hands and in our own yards.

One technique for growing organic fruits and vegetables locally and reliably is a growing apparatus invented by Blake Whisenant, founder of Earth Box (earthbox.com). Pinnacle Academy of Lakewood Ranch, FL (thepinnacleacademy.com) has been granted permission to mimic the utility of this design by Whisenant himself, with autism safe modifications. This design will allow food to be grown affordably, organically and easily with few limitations. Our modifications in building materials will ensure that food is guaranteed safe for the consumption of any individual with autism.
-
Using Whisenant’s patented design, the parents of children with autism are learning to grow food for their families that naturally synthesizes enzymes, minerals, vitamins and living co-factors in abundance. Used straight from the very plant base and served raw, these foods are ideally nutritious. Thanks to the hard work of experts in the field of autism treatment, it has been demonstrated how these foods can help address deficiencies in the body that are brought about by the many adverse affects of autism.

We seek to validate such research yet again, but within a private school setting. We commit to providing the details of our effort within this publication space for the world to review. We expect to provide accountable data to the autism research community as we work in tandem with local universities who will observe our effort. We aim to solicit the leaders in the field of autism research and treatment to review and advise our process. It is our vow to, in the words of Julie Mathews, “Nourish hope for autism”.
-
This approach is not a cure, to be clear, but it is among the most effective of weapons we have to combat the symptoms of autism and address the underlying causes by helping the afflicted body to naturally grow stronger. Our strategy is to maximize the convenience, sustainability and influence of an unprocessed diet for children by collaborating with local businesses, horticulturalists, universities and humanitarian societies to create an autism-safe gardening model for replication, while giving our children a growing chance at superior health.
